this has been one of the best purchases we have made in a very long time…easy to assemble, fun to use…very smooth.
I love this gym! It provides a GREAT workout!!! Also, I was really happy with how easy it was to assemble. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!
I first got the idea to buy a total gym type piece of equipment from watching videos on Youtube, seeing the results others achieved. I have owned it for about 10 days now and I can honestly say it is the best piece of equipment I have ever purchased. I was already on a workout routine and don’t usually get TOO sore. With the Total Body Works 5000 Gym, I’m hitting those small muscle groups that are usually hard to target. You notice it immediately and it definitely improves your overall strength and conditioning. So far the only thing I can say is that I do have to use the max incline for exercises, but I expected that seeing as I am already in shape. So far I have not used the resistance bands because I target increasing reps in my workouts first. Overall I think this is an excellent product.
Pros:
Price compared to other brands of similar equipment.
Sturdy construction.
Variety of exercises available (tons of information and videos on Youtube, also DVD’s on Amazon, Total Gym Blast).
Surprisingly small footprint: don’t need much room to effectively use it.
Cons:
A little easy to slide down the surface of the mat for some exercises.
Pulleys squeak (I put some gun lube on them and it fixed it right up, I’m sure a WD-40 type lubricant would do the trick)
I lOVE this machine, since I’ve had it, 3 of my friends have bought one. It is well made and has lots of options. I highly recommend it.
First off, it’s heavy, but not nearly as cumbersome as I had feared. The delivery man was able to bring it to my front door by himself, and I was able to take it inside from there and start assembling it.
After opening the box, I saw that there were really only a few pieces to put together, and all the tools are included, although I tightened the three nuts and bolts with a wrench and pliers. It took me about 10 minutes to set up, and about 6 of them were spent trying to find the “small knob” that you need to pull back and then extend the bottom. Definitely possible for a person who is a bit handy to set up by him/herself, but having a second person there would probably be a good idea for those who aren’t too good with assembly. BTW, there is a card included with a phone number to call if you want a technician to come to your place and set it up for you (”starting at $119,” it reads).
You WILL need to account for some floor space for this. I’ve got mine in my basement, and luckily it’s heated for the winter months, so there it will stay; but if you’re going to put this piece of equipment in, say, an apartment or a living room, you had better account for 7 or 8 feet when fully extended. It’s not very wide, and the height/angle is adjustable, so once you get the length squared away, you’ll be in good shape.
The exercises are pretty much what you would expect, which is good. There are a lot of variations possible, so I doubt it will ever be boring.
So far, I am pretty happy with it, and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to get into shape without videos, powdered drinks, weights, etc.
