Not a full workout on its own, but this is a fun, quick addition to an existing routine. The DVD routine it comes with only takes about 5 minutes to do, which means even a couch potato can run through it several times a day, during a commercial break, while waiting for that big file to download, or the coffee to finish brewing. The quick workout also means there's no excuse. Even if you're running a bit late in the morning... what's 5 minutes more? Forgot, and it's bedtime? So what? It'll only take 5 minutes. I keep mine at hand at make a point of using it in spare moments. It has the disadvantage of only coming in the one weight, but there's a little compensation in that the intensity of the exercise is affected by the rate at which you shake it. A gentle shake provides a gentle workout, and more vigorous shake gives a little tougher workout.

Not for those looking for a real workout, but well worth it for a little boost to an existing workout, or for women looking for a little extra toning.

I have been working out every day with this weight for two weeks now and it absolutely, positively works. I've noticed that the older women in my family lose muscle tone in their shoulders and arms as they age and I decided I would try to do something to prevent that from happening to me. I cannot believe how much this has done for my arms. I look absolutely ridiculous using it but I feel so much stronger and toned. I have injured my shoulders in the past (once doing pilates on a reformer and once carrying a luggage) and I have had absolutely no problem with the exercises on the video. This is the only piece of equipment that I have ever purchased and actually used every day. I just keep the video in my laptop and work it into my schedule during the day. Thankfully I work out of a home office where no one can see me!

It gives a good workout, but I hear you can go blind by using the shakeweight too often.

Never...NEVER has my dream of a great workout infused with sexual overtones been so masterfully blended together. To be quite honest, I bought the weights just for the DVD. After throwing the weights out I started watching the DVD, around 11 am my work calls my home, they left a message asking where I was/where to be reached. My cellphone was off.. Needless to say my arm did get bigger, thanks Shake Weight!
