I love this elliptical it was recommended to me by my brother. It seems to be a really high quality machine. My husband is 6 feet seven inches tall and he cannot use all ellipticals, but he says this one fits him really well and feels natural to him. I recently got it and I am still figuring things out but I really like it!
To start, set-up was fairly easy. We would have had it up and running in an hour and a half, but we were missing a bolt that held the machine to the frame, so I had to run to the hardware store (half hour each way) to get a bolt. Yes, I could have called Schwinn for a replacement bolt, but I would have to wait for shipping, and I’m not a very patient person (according to my husband). So we got a replacement bolt for $0.50 and we were off. It does squeak as some people have said, but it hasn’t bothered us to dink with it. Our biggest gripe is where the power cord comes into the unit at the bottom. It would be nice if they could design it so the power cord runs under the machine and out the back in some way. If you come around the front of the machine it would be very easy to break the plug, and the way it is designed we have to put the machine facing the wall. There isn’t enough length in the power cord to run it under the mat we bought. I am not a huge fan of the water bottle holder either, although my husband doesn’t seem to mind. I use larger, liter size Nalgene bottles and they do not fit the holder. Just my beef. Otherwise, it is comfortable and user friendly, good stride length, good feedback. The heartrate monitor could be a bit quicker to give a reading, but the fact that this machine even has one given the price point is a bonus. Would buy again…
This was a big step up for me. Previous to this I was using a 7 year old elliptical that had 2 or 3 mods from me to keep it working, including creating a new resistance strap for the flywheel made out of a leather strap that I cut from a larger, old piece of leather.
I have no complaints with the elliptical. It took me 2-3 hours to put together, wouldn’t have taken as long if I had read instructions more closely. The instructions were mostly straitforward.
It works as claimed and I’ve used it for about 3 weeks with no proplems. The motion is smooth and the adjustments and programs are as nice as I’ve seen in the gym units. Features are great for me, though, as I said my judgement is partially tainted by the huge step up this was for my own personal machine.
I would recommend this unit.
Product far exceeded expectations! It runs so quietly and smoothly, the only sound is when you press the stop button, the computer snickers (I swear it did) as it updates the info. Of course, then I pressed “Results” to get it’s opinion. It said” good job”, at least it didn’t snicker again! OK, so it was only a very small fan type noise, but when you are holding on to the stationary handles, to avoid falling down, because it has really kicked you in the rear, it sounds like a snicker!
Oh, and be sure to always finish with a couple of minutes going in reverse to get the full experience of having been kicked! Seriously, I recommend this machine to everyone. Very well made, heavy materials, easy to assemble, (but I am a woman, therefore followed directions), absolutely no wobble, and fun to use. My only complaint is the label that says “25 pound flywheel”, if it truly is 25 pounds, then they enclosed it in a 50 pound plastic case! Or maybe it just wanted to establish it’s dominance over a 65 year old woman right at the start! Super machine! Thank you Schwinn!
I guess I don’t understand how this product has so many good reviews. The only thing that comes to mind is that most people use it for a couple of weeks, and then use it a clothes hanger only. I was unfortunate enough to get serious about working out about a year after I bought the elliptical, right after the warranty expired. I went for 5 times a week, three of which were long 50-minute sessions. Immediately the squeeking and clanking started. It got worse and worse, till eventually it started feeling like the elliptical was going to fall apart. I dug out the manual and checked out the joints. I found out that due to the poor fit of the left lower handlebar to the left lower pedal arm, the side of the handlebar was cutting into the bolt holding those two together. It actually made a pretty good dent in the bolt. I removed the bolt, took it Lowe’s and got a similar looking one. I also read the advice in these reviews and got the white lithium grease. I disassembled all moving parts, lubed them, and re-assembled. Unfortunately it helped the squeeking only briefly. I had elliptical chew through another bolt, and several others keep coming lose (even though I installed all of the washers in the right sequence). Currently the elliptical is clanking and squeeking, and smells like a machine shop (thanks to all the lube). It still feels like it’s falling apart on me. Note, I am pretty handy and a DIY type of guy. I installed an underground sprinkler system in my house myself, etc. So while possible, I highly doubt it is any kind of user error on my part.
In addition to that, it is pretty flimsy to begin with. E.g., it is impossible to read while on it because it shakes quite a bit. Overall it feels pretty cheap, not very good fit & finish. OK, I understand this is not one of the professional grade models that would cost several thousand. One the other hand $600 is still quite a bit of money, and reading all the raving reviews, I was definitely expecting a much better machine. I am very disappointed. I am stuck with this piece of junk until it completely falls apart on me.
