For a combination of fairly quick plate changes, fairly heavy weight capability, fairly short length, & ok solid feel, these will do: Although “Selectec”, “Bowflex” & “Nautilus” change weights faster & more safely, they’re too long, even when set at very low weights, & aren’t available as heavy dbs. Although “Ironmaster” changes plates a bit more slowly, they’re much more solid, have a design much more functional for a wider variety of exercises, & can be special-ordered to be as heavy as you want them.

I bought these as a cheaper alternative to Bowflex Selectech dumbbells, and long story short I just ordered a set of Selectech and will be trying to sell these or else give them away.

They are weights, yes, and they are adjustable. But I found them to be a bit clunky and not very ergonomically appealing. Also, the change between weights unless you’re doing 10 lb increments is time consuming. There are two 2.5 lb weights in the handle, so you have to remove the center handle and remove one or both of them depending on if you want to adjust 2.5 or 5 lbs. Plus then you have one or both of the 2.5 lb weights to deal with until you put them back in the handle. A bit of a pain in regular use, but especially for me as I use them for P90X and changing as quickly as possible is beneficial.

They’re not bad, I just think there are better alternatives out there.

These weights are awesome. So easy to switch from different weights. Best part is that they are compact and not huge like my olympic weights. No more spring clamps for me!!! Just slide the rod out and slide it in to desired weight and your off. Takes about 2 seconds to switch weight. Couldnt ask for anything more. These really are the worlds best dumbbell! Get em, you wont be sorry! Worth every penny.

The dumbbells have easy adjustable weight sets. Other brands use dials, this one uses a rubberized magnetic pin strap that is very easy and quick to pull in and out. The weights are well made, secure, compact and safe to use. If you are concern about the risk of weights falling of while in use, don’t be, this is the best design I’ve seen and it’s virtually impossible of that happening. With the 45 lb classic set, you can expand to 60 lb with add-ons. If you need more weight than that, then you should choose the Elite model, which can go up to 105 lb set with add-ons.

I bought these when I wanted to start working out again. Calling on my past excuses (the gyms too far, takes too long to get there, in, out, and back, et al), I knew the most effective way to tackle that was to bring what I could to me. Also, I live in an apartment so any and all concepts of building an actual gym, coupled with the fact that I don’t waltz around lighting cigars with $100 bills, led me to find a solution.

And that solution? POWERBLOCKS! While obviously not providing a full gym, you can do a LOT with free weights and cheap weight bench that you can tuck away somewhere. Not only are these effectively cheaper than buying an entire set of weights, they are not inclined to punch a hole through the floor, annoying my downstairs neighbors and eliminating any hope for my security deposit. They can also be easily stowed away behind the couch, under the desk, or wherever you can fit two 45 lb dumbbells.

The one and only complaint I have for them is that they don’t have a 2.5 jump (22.5, 32.5, etc) but they CAN do 7.5. I know I’m nit picking here but it’s nice when you’re pushing to not have to jump 5 lbs. Also, you can max them out fairly quick with things like press making it necessary in no time to throw down for the expander set. Other than that, though, they’ve been the best fitness investment I could make!

If you or anyone you know wants to find an easy solution to bring the gym home, I’d recommend these over any equipment out there.
