Power 90 has four phases (2 dvd’s) and I’m still working on phase 1/2. An excellent (separate) Fat Burning DVD is also included and I mix that into my workouts as well. All-in-all this is an effective program for those trying to lose weight and enjoy a healthier lifestyle. I recommend it to anyone who is attempting to graduate to the P90X and, possibly, Insanity workout programs (also by Beachbody).

I’ve been back at running for over a year, but needed to get my upper body in better shape, as well as working in some variety to break up the workout.

This has been an excellent choice — a cardio/abs program, combined with a strength/body sculpting program, on alternating days.

Tony Horton is very low key and reminds you through out that the pace should be dictated by your comfort level, not by what the instructor and demonstrators are doing on screen. He encourages pausing the DVD if you need it, which becomes unnecessary after a week or so. The accompanying documentation provides clear markers for identifying the proper number of reps you need for the weight routines, as well as when to identify plateaus and how to handle them.

Overall a very good program; the in-home boot camp is a good way to start getting yourself into shape.

I was out of shape! Do this program first if there is any doubt before trying anything more strenuous. I work out at home at my own pace. Somedays are more difficult than others but i seem to be able to do more and exercise longer each day. Very Very Happy with yhe program.

So far…so good. My wife and I purchased this series to use in the mornings before the kids got up. We both like it. Our goal is to step up to the P90X when finished with P90. Great workout program for beginners and a great way to start our day. Workouts are as challenging as you make them. Typical workout length is around thirty-five minutes regardless if it’s the “sweat” (cardio) or the “sculpt” (resistance training). We are about four weeks in and still getting out of bed every morning and pressing play.

The Power 90 In-Home Boot Camp is a consice, well-conceived, well-organized and nicely presented kit. Tony Horton is clearly very knowledgeable in the field of fitness & exercise, and he takes a no-nonsense, practicle approach to helping you get back on track.

After researching P90X, which appears to have supplanted the Power 90, I knew I wasn’t ready for such a challenging (extreme) program so I decided to start with the Power 90. Like all of Tony Horton’s programs and, as many other users/reviewers have stated, you get out of the program what you put into it. If you don’t commit to excercising and discipline yourself to do the routines as recommended (6 days per week), you’re not going to see results. If you proceed as instructed, you will definitely see changes, as promised, and fairly quickly, too.

The DVDs are divided into timed “phases” (segments) which is surprisingly helpful in keeping you going, as no one section is so long that is seems unobtainable. The first Boot Camp DVD contains Phase 1-2: Sculpt 1-2 (circuit training); Sweat 1-2 (cardio); AB Ripper 100. The second DVD contains Phase 3-4: Sculpt 3-4; Sweat 3-4; AB Ripper 200. (There’s also a “bonus” DVD ‘Fat Burning Express’ which is a great way to get ready for the Boot Camp DVDs.) The pace is brisk, but not in the super-high heart rate category, and the time passes much more quickly than you’d expect. If you’re out of shape and out of practise, like me, you’ll find it challenging (but not frustratingly, irritatingly so) which will keep you concentrating and absorbed, also making the time seem to pass faster.

You MUST have dumbbells and/or resistance bands to do these workouts. I don’t see any way to modify the routines to proceed without them, and you absolutely will not get the same benefits and results without dumbbells or bands. I really like Reebok’s Speed Pac Adjustable Dumbbells; they’re very good quality, well-designed, compact and easily stored.

The catch phrase for the program is “Power to shower in under an hour”, meaning you should be able to set yourself up, complete the day’s circuits, pack up and hit the shower in under one hour. If you’re out of shape with poor stamina (like me), and you have to pause the DVDs frequently, it may take a little longer than an hour from start to finish. However, once you begin to improve and build up some speed and stamina, it’s absolutely doable within the hour, which is pretty impressive considering you’re really getting tremendous benefits (strength, flexibility, stamina, cardio, fat burning) from a very small investment of time.

I purchased the kit through Amazon and received free shipping although I did have to pay sales tax; I don’t know whether that was due to my location or the way BeachBody structures their business. The box arrived promptly, in perfect order, with the contents exactly as pictured and described in the Amazon listing. When you consider the price of Gym memberships and dues, the Power 90 cost of approximately $75 is a bargain. The exercise band (included) is a value-added item, and the printed materials are comprehensive yet concise, and easy to follow. The kit puts you in total control, in your own home, any time that’s convenient for you. If you’re looking for a good, sensible starter program, I definitely recommend Power 90.
