This pedometer will measure number of steps, calories burn and distance in miles.
Made by Omron, a brand I trust for my blood pressure and my kids’ temperature.
It is simple and easy to use. It only has 2 lines of text; on top shows you the number of steps, calories or distance – display rotates when you push the Mode button. The other line of text shows you the time. The device is attractive, looks like an MP3 player. I like the black and gray combination. The LCD screen is protected by a layer of clear plastic, so you have to peel it off first before you can use it. The pedometer has a clip at the back so you can clip it on your waist garter, similar to that of the iPod shuffle.
When you get it for the first time, you will need to set up the proper time, your weight and your height. It is important to set up the time because the pedometer will go back to 0 at exactly 12:00 AM everyday. There are 2 buttons at the back and you will need a sharp object to press them. The System Rest button, is a factory reset, this will delete all data and put the setting back to default. The other button is the Set button, used for setting up the time.It will store your last 7 days of workout. Repeated press on the Memo button will display your 7 days history.
While in use, the LCD will turn off after 5 minutes to save battery consumption (but the pedometer will still continue counting steps). Press Memo button to wake up the display again.
ACCURACY:
I actually counted 200 steps and it recorded 201. The error probably is my own or my position. But that is 0.5% error in accuracy.
BATTERY:
It was shipped with a 3-volt Energizer Watch/Electronic Batterie. To open the battery compartment, you will need a small watch screw driver. 2 screws at the back. A low battery indicator will prompt you when you need to replace the battery.
Made in China.
CONS:
- You cannot start the pedometer to 0 if you want to measure the number of steps, calories, or distance for a particular route, unless you reset the device completely. It only starts from 0 by 12:00 each morning.
- I don’t like the bubble wrap packaging. It is a struggle to open.
for people who wants to lose some weight, it is a good device showing how many calories you used, how many steps you made, memory…
I am on my fourth Omron HJ-151 Hip Pedometer. It works really well and seems to be very accurate in its count of steps. The features are great- all of them work well for me. I love this pedometer and I only have one issue. I keep losing it! One of my favorite features of the pedometer is its size, but it comes with a drawback- the belt clip is small, and the pedometer falls off. The spring clip in itself is strong- but it wriggles its way up the waist of my pants, and inevitably falls off. This time, I attached a rubber band to the pedometer and wound it around my belt loop in an attempt to keep it from falling. It has worked so far and is an inexpensive security device to keep this pedometer in place.
This is a great pedometer. It is accurate in that it registers steps but it doesn’t register other kinds of bumps and movements. For example some pedometers will register steps when you are riding in a car and going over bumps, or sitting in a chair tapping your foot. This one knows the difference. Its a nice thing to wear every day. It lets you pretty easily adjust your activitiy level to get in 10 to 12 thosand steps each day. Though I don’t have much time for “exercise”, this lets me work in a level of activity every day that has made me feel much fitter and trimmer than I was before I started using it. Maybe I’d be better off if I could spend a half hour each day in the gym, but that is not going to happen and it would be boring anyway. Walking more is good on several levels. You get the exercise and you are out seeing things and people, whether your taking a thirty minute walk around the neigborhood, or just taking an extra lap around the supermarket and parking your car a little farther a way.
When I signed up to participate in a “count your steps” program, I searched at retail stores for a reasonably priced pedometer. All I found were ridiculously priced ones at specialty “running” shops or cheaply made over-priced ones at major retailers. My physician recommended Omron, and I decided to search at Amazon. I was favorably impressed with the look, the price and the reviews of the HJ-151–especially the price! It was half what I found it listed for at other sites. I like its compact size, the clip is sturdy (it fell off my waistband once or twice due to “operator error”), it was simple to program and has useful features like the 7 day memory, automatic set to zero at midnight, and moderate step count and mileage as well as standard step count. I’m glad I ordered 2 because my friend was thrilled with the one I gave her as a gift. I highly recommend this pedometer for the non-professional, average walker interested in improving daily step count and overall walk totals.
