I own the New Balance 1122. I believe it’s the model that this one replaced. They look the exact same with the same features. I have always had a problem with shin splints. My doctor told me to get a shoe with really high arch support to solve the problem. But most doctors are delicate genius idiots. This shoe works well for me. Any other brand I wear makes my shins hurt. This shoe is a bit heavy and it’s pretty flat. I think the fact that it’s flat and has the side supports (look at the bottom of the shoe and it’s like a block–not curved like 99% of shoes) is what helps me. I can jog, play tennis, walk for hours and my shins are fine with this shoe. If you’ve tried everything else and nothing works, try this shoe out…it has made a 100% difference in my life. In fact, I have been wearing the pair on my feet right now for about 7 years and I own a brand new pair that I’ve never opened because I wanted to save them. I plan on buying this new version (1123) a couple times for storage in my old age…that’s how much I like them. My eventual goal is to have 10 pair in storage so I’m set for life. Seriously, you can’t endorse a product more than that, can you?

PS. If you are suffering from shin splints right now…you have to give them 6 weeks of inactivity before doing rigorous exercise. Just putting on this shoe won’t fix them (nothing can except time and good nutrition).

PPS. The price is high, but, as you can tell by now, I think they’re worth every penny.

We ordered these shoes online because my boyfriend has unusually wide feet, and can’t find wide enough shoes in stores. He is otherwise very fit (as in, not overweight at all), and we were looking for just a regular pair of athletic-type sneakers. We didn’t notice online that the sole is all in one piece, and seemed very high on the arch sides of the shoes. Perhaps I misunderstood the descriptions or the purpose of the shoe – I wasn’t sure if they were orthopaedic or long-distance running shoes, but either way, they were a bit odd. We didn’t feel that the shoes would “pass” as regular sneakers, so we returned them. New Balance makes some other shoes that we later bought that were much more like regular sneakers.

I have bad knees from years of windsurfing and snowboarding. This shoe combined with orthotics from Superfeet decreased by knee pain by 50%. As a result, as a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer I have recommended this shoe to my clients over the years. Everyone, myself included, has been happy with the results.

  4. Buddy says:

The 1123 is the most stable and has the best fit. Especially if you are heavy. I’ve tried others for walking, but always come back to the 1123.

  5. I am says:

The New Balance 1123 is a great all around shoe. Made in the USA (as are most New Balance shoes…) of very high quality materials. Great support and comfortable for any activity. Worth the money. Very durable and long lasting soles. Shoe airs out very well and holds up to daily exercise routines without smelling like a pile of sweat like some of the cheap Nike products do. Highly recommended for those looking for a quality running shoe.
