The bench is about 11.75 inches wide (pretty much the same for other benches), 41 inches long, and about 2.3 inches thick (padding). From the floor to the top of the pad is about 16.8 inches, which is pretty much the same height as most benches.
It’s got a tubular construction and is very solid. I am about 220lbs and use this for a flat bench and dumbbells, and this bench has not rocked, creaked, wiggled, or shifted under my body weight
+200lbs.
Easy directions for assembly (the instructions were only 1 paragraph long, and it took me about 15 minutes since I am not mechanically inclined ). You will need some kind of crescent wrench (I used a socket wrench) and it comes with the needed Allen wrenches.
The item in the picture is the old model, the new model is black, as is depicted by here: Apex Flat Bench JD2.2
The best thing about this item is the price and the fact that it has free shipping. I have Amazon Prime, which makes it even better, because of the free 2-day delivery and tracking, and no minimum order.
This is a very good, sturdy, simple exercise bench that provides excellent value for the money. It is well manufactured, easy to assemble, and comfortable to use. The padding has just the right density. This bench is best for use with lighter weight, simple barbells; not for bench pressing 200+ pounds. It’s just a little bit tippy if you perch at the very end, and lean your body far forward, but this is NOT to say unstable. Just move back an inch and you’re back on terra firma.
I was sent the wrong item. The model # is correct but the specs and pics are for JD2.1. Amazon sent me another and it was wrong too. I am glad I got a full refund though. I wish amazon would change their picture and description to that of the JD2.2 and not of the JD2.1. Its ok if you want a JD2.2 but if you were expecting the original version (which is more heavy duty and weighs about 9 pounds more) then this is not what you want.
After having priced various benches at different retail stores, I came across this Apex bench on Amazon. All I can say is that it meets all expectations. If you need a bench for basic dumbbell work, then this is the one you want. It is extremely easy to put together.
After reading all of the great reviews about how sturdy and rugged it was I took a chance it would be OK for benching in the rack. No complaint with the manufacturer because they stated 300 lb. limit. Apparently non of the reviewers have a big bench press. The pad feels great. Ideal width and firm pad. But the frame will not take heavy weight. We had just done 625 for a 2 board press and were very lucky when I was about to take 675 out that one side spotter noticed the leg bent inwards about 10-15 degrees. Quite sure the 675 would have finished it and me off. Like I said, based on all the reviews I decided to ‘check it out’ and almost paid dearly. I’m going to get the legs welded at the seams so it’s a solid bench and use it for DB work, so it’s not a wast (price is great). I’d recommend it as a DB work bench. But if you and the bar weigh more than 300, don’t risk it. Respect the recommended limit and it’s a good comfortable and affordable light work bench.
